PALLIATIVES DISTRIBUTION TURNS TRAGIC IN ABUJA; STAMPEDE OCCURS, MANY FEARED DEAD

 

Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Maitama, Abuja, on Saturday morning shared palliatives  and this resulted to stampede which claimed about ten persons life and  left many others in serious injuries.


 A similar incident  occurred in Ibadan, Oyo State,  about. few days ago where  stampede at  children’s funfair resulted in the deaths of at least 35 children and left six others critically injured.

        The Saturday incident occurred when residents scrambled to receive palliatives distributed by the church.

      The event, organised to provide relief to struggling residents, reportedly drew residents mostly from Mpape, Gishiri Village, and other nearby settlements.

       However, eyewitnesses claim the incident occurred between 7 am and 8 am on Saturday when the crowd surged forward to receive the palliatives.

JUNE 12 : PROSECUTE BABANGIDA NOW, CDHR TELLS FG

The Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR) has called for the prosecution of the first military President of Nigeria, Gen. Babangida (Rtd.) for his actions and inactions that led to the annulment of the June 12, 1993 election.  In a statement released to the press and signed by the National President of the human rights association, Debo Adeniran, they outlined various reasons why the current administration must prosecute Babangida and ensure justice is served for the roles he played during and after the election.  The statement reads:  We received with heavy heart the recent admission of the infamous June 12 notorious fact by former military ruler, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (Rtd).
