PALLIATIVES DISTRIBUTION TURNS TRAGIC IN ABUJA; STAMPEDE OCCURS, MANY FEARED DEAD

  Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Maitama, Abuja, on Saturday morning shared palliatives  and this resulted to stampede which claimed about ten persons life and  left many others in serious injuries.  A similar incident  occurred in Ibadan, Oyo State,  about. few days ago where  stampede at  children’s funfair resulted in the deaths of at least 35 children and left six others critically injured.         The Saturday incident occurred when residents scrambled to receive palliatives distributed by the church.       The event, organised to provide relief to struggling residents, reportedly drew residents mostly from Mpape, Gishiri Village, and other nearby settlements.        However, eyewitnesses claim the incident occurred between 7 am and 8 am on Saturday when the crowd surged forward to receive the palliatives.

 Tax reform: Reps suspend debate indefinitely as northern govs mount pressure House of Representatives The House of Representatives has suspended indefinitely the debate on the Tax Reforms Bills earlier fixed for Tuesday following mounting pressure from the 19 northern states governors, The PUNCH reports. The planned debate was called off in a memo signed by the Clerk of the House of Representatives, Dr Yahaya Danzaria, as 73 northern lawmakers kicked against the bills. Those who rejected the bills include 48 Reps members from the North-East, 24 federal lawmakers from Kano and a former Governor of Sokoto State, Senator Aminu Tambuwal, who represents Sokoto South Senatorial District.
